Step 1 Pick A Topic
So you want to start a blog but your not sure what to blog out.
Don’t stress, I have you covered. 🙂
Theres a few things you want to think about when deciding on a niche:
What do you have an interest in? or Passionate about? Think about what gets you excited and your expertise.
What are people are searching for on Google, Bing & Yahoo? You can use the Google trends page and a keyword research tool to help you on this.
Are there monetization methods available for that topic? Are there affiliate marketing programs? Is there scope to create your own online program on the topic? Will you get enough traffic with this topic to make good money with ads?
You can blog about anything, here are some popular topics that are proven to make money:

Step 2 Domain Name
Your domain is your website name, like google.com or goodbyeworkhellolife.co :-p
Here’s some guidance for coming up with your domain name:
- Keep it short
- Make it brand-able
- Make it pronounceable
- Make it a .com or .co
- Make it related to your niche
Also including keywords (popular words that people are searching for) related to your niche in the domain can make it easier for people to find your blog. For example, If your blog is going to be about organic beauty, you would then include “organic beauty” in your domain name.
You can also use this fun domain name generator to come up with ideas: Namemesh
Try not to spend too long coming up with the perfect domain name because you’ll just drive yourself crazy. Spend a little time in doing your research and coming up with 5 potential domain names. You can then narrow your choices down to pick the best one that will fit your niche.
You can buy your domain name with your hosting to make the process a lot easier.
But if you want to see if your domain name is available then check here: SiteGround Domain + Hosting
Step 3 Hosting
I want to make these three terms super easy for you to understand before I explain what’s the best web-hosting on the market.
Your domain is your street address.
Your web hosting is your plot of land.
And WordPress.org is your house.
You wouldn’t build a great house on a crappy plot of land. So dont build your site with an awful web-hosting company. It wont go well and you’ll be wishing you spent your money with an excellent web-host.
Free hosting vs Paid Hosting
“Can’t I just start a blog for free?” you ask.
“I read that you can easily start a free blog” you say.
Short answer: NO!
Long Answer: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Sorry! Jokes aside, this is one of those super irritating pieces of mis-information on the internet.
Starting a free blog with Tumblr or WordPress.com (not to be confused with the self-hosting site WordPress.org) isnt going to lead to any type of financial success.
Theres 4 main reasons why you will never be successful with a free blog:
- You have no control over your blog – The company can shut your blog down at any time and place hideous ads wherever they like (I saw this one site that had an ad placed mid sentence! :-/) for no reason at all.
- You can’t place ads on your site – So even if you some how manage to drive all this traffic to your site, you wont be able to monetize it with good quality ads because its not allowed. There goes your passive income stream.
- You’ll end up getting a domain name thats unbrandable and long. – If you start a free blog with tumbler, your domain with be freedomainname.tumblr.com. That domain name isn’t going to get you very far.
- No money making capability with a free blog– Yup, I’ve done my research and I havent see even one free blog that has made any money online. Affiliate network are unlikey to accept your application because they dont see your site as being serious. Sad to say but it’s near enough impossible to make living this way.
A free blog site is great if you just want a hobby blog that you don’t intend on making any money with. – It’s not going to let you start a successful blog though.
But if you want to build a profitable online business, you have to invest in yourself and buy a good quality domain/hosting. They truly are the essentials of a good blog.

Personal blogging tips:
Be Patient – It take’s time to build a blog that will make money consistently. A lot of bloggers who are consistent see the $1000p/m mark 6 months into their new blog. This is because the learning curve in the beginning of blogging is steep. There’s lots to learn but it’s all relatively easy. You just need to take the time to write quality content, engage with your readers and keep learning.

It’s like anything in life, you have to put in the work consistently. You never know how close you are to success.
Keep Learning –The only way you become good at anything is by consistently ‘doing’ and learning. This is so true of the blogging world. Learn how to build a profitable blog into an online business by following the steps and advice of other successful people. Invest in yourself and your future.
