Have you ever gone to page 20 of google to find what your looking for? Nope, me neither.
SEO is pretty simple and there are a couple of things that can help you to start optimizing your blog posts:
- Download the Yoast SEO plugin and use it on every post.
- Invest in a keyword research tool to help you find popular keywords. I wrote a post showing the only keyword tool that I use and how I find those golden keywords.
- Submit your sitemap to Google, Bing and Yahoo.
- Learn on-page and off-page SEO.
SEO is a long haul method to getting traffic to your blog. You wont see the results from your SEO process for at least 6 months from the time of publishing your post. As your site gets authority, your site will rank higher on the search engines quicker.

It’s really good to engage with people interested in your niche by leaving comments and answering questions on other niche related blogs. Before you say it, nope its not spammy! As long as you show your fellow blogger the same respect as you would like, then it’s all good.
Leave a comment on their blog explaining how useful their post was or give them insight into your experience on the topic. When other readers see your comment, it will spark a curiosity and they may just head on over to your blog to see what they can learn from you.
Leaving comments is a powerful way to drive traffic to your site without really trying to hard. It’s just a fun way to connect with people with an added bonus of more free traffic.
#4 Guest Blogging
Guest blogging is another great opportunity to get your amazing content in front of a new related niche audience.
Say there is another blogger in your niche who gets over 50,000 visitors a month and they agree to let you do a guest post on their blog. You can increase your audience by a potential 50,000 people in 1 month by just writing and putting one of your posts on their site (Link to your site at the bottom of the post).
If you offer enough value, then that blogger might ask you to write more guest posts. That’s mega traffic surge!
Now do you see why bloggers love guest blogging?
It’s a powerful way to build relationships with other bloggers whilst increasing your own blogs exposure.
A win win for all!
Plus with guest blogging, you get backlinks. Backlinks are links to your site that are on other people’s site. The more backlinks you have, the more Google love you get. 🙂
#5 Promote Blog On Forums
This is a pretty old school method but it works like a treat.
Your probably like “What?!?!.. Nope I’m not signing up to 100 forums, just to waste my time.”
Here me out…
Forums are these really underestimated places where some of your audience hangs out to get their problems solved. They want personal interaction with others who are experiencing the issues that they have or othat can solve their issue.
If you can help them with their issue in anyway you will be there go to for future related issues. This is where you can direct them to your epic blog.
You dont need to sign up to 100. Sign up to 5 and answer the top topic related questions, leaving your site name under every comment you make.
Be useful and geniunely helpful!
Getting involved in your blog community is not only a great way to get more visitors to your blog but it also helps you get a better understanding of your audiences needs.
#6 Write In-depth Pillar Posts
Pillar articles are long, high quality and timeless.
They are usually in-depth guides that cover a whole topic that the reader can come back to time and time again. These kind of posts rank highly in the search engines as they are deemed the most valuable. Your visitors don’t need to make several searches around the topic because they’ll be able to find everything they need in that pillar post.
Writing in-depth also shows your audience that your an expert in the topic which means they will most likely share your content and become a loyal reader.
Site authority counts for a lot when it comes to traffic building.
#7 Respond to Comments
Just like leaving comments on other sites, you want to respond to comments made on your blog. Getting back to your readers just to thank them for their comment or answering their questions can make a massive difference to the level of engagement on your blog.
More engagement equals more respect from the SEO gods. And as you know, better SEO gives your blog greater visibilty on the search engines.
#8 Publish Regularly
You might think this is an obvious one but many seem to forget it. They go on the hope that they can write a few posts one month and then nothing for another two months. Unfortunately building traffic doesnt work this way.
Publishing regularly shows your audience and Google that your not a one hit blog wonder or a complete blogging flake. Instead it shows them that your dedicated to providing value and expertise. Also the more posts you produce, the more opportunity you have to gain traffic back to your site.
Hubspot did some great research on how often you should post new content on your blog.
Here’s what they found:
“Companies that published 16+ blog posts per month got almost 3.5X more traffic than companies that published between 0 – 4 monthly posts.”
Even if you can only post once week, make sure it’s consistently once a week and not 4 posts published in the last week of the month.
Use a calender to keep yourself accountable and plan content so that your not wasting time in procrastination mode.
Consistency is key to success my friends!
#9 Promote Daily
Successful blog posting uses the 80/20 rule.
20% content writing and 80% promotion.
You know that old age saying ” Quality over quantity”?
It’s so true!
There is no point writitng all this really useful and fun content for it to be lost in the dark corners of the internet. Your going to be waiting a very long time if you rely on just search engines to bring in visitors your site.
Getting visitors to your blog requires you to write quality content that you can promote daily in various ways.
Here are some:
- Send an email out to your subcriber list, letting them know you have a new post.
- Let your social media platforms know about your new post.
- Schedule your pins on Pinterest with Tailwind so that your content can be promoted on autopilot.
#10 Make Your Blog Shareable
Help your readers share your content with others by installing a social sharing plugn called Sumome. It’s a free wordpress plugin.
Sumome allows your reader to share images and posts from your blog by the click of one button. Making it easier for your visitor to share your content on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or Pinterest.
Also, asking your audience to actively follow you on those social media platforms will cause a traffic surge to your blog.
If you notice, these little icons usually have a number on them showing how many times the post/image has been shared. This is great because it gives social proof to your audience and the search engines that your content is loved.
#11 Build A E-mail List
Actively building an e-mail list is something you should start thinking about from day 1 of your blog. It’s the only way to actually build a potential customer base for free. Plus it helps you build a better relationship with your audience so that you know what kind of content their interested in.
And if also else fails with trying to monetize your blog, you can count on your e-mail list. Your e-mail list is the most valubale level of communication you will have with your audience. Promoting products to your e-mail list is a fast track way to increase your income. Just make sure that what your promoting is high quality and useful. – As always 🙂
When it comes to getting more people on your site, your e-mail list can provide an instant traffic boost. All you need to do is send them an e-mail telling them to check your recent post. And BOOM! just like that your traffic increases that day.
#12 Deliver More
The more value you provide in your content, the more you will become well respected by niche followers. This means a lot when it comes to getting more visitors to your blog. Blogs that are known for being the go-to blog in the niche always get the most traffic because they have developed a strong relationship with their followers.
They have done this by over delivering in every bit of content they produce. And, its these loyal followers that are likely to share your content with others.
More shares equals more engaging traffic on your blog.
#13 Use Quora & Reddit
Quora is a brilliant Q&A place where people submit their questions and experts answer them. The idea of this is similar to getting involved in the conversation on forums in your niche. But the extra advantage of Quora is that it’s a traffic building powerhouse.
Being able to solve peoples “pain points” easily is the center of what makes a blog successful and Quora gives you a great opportunity to prove that. if you can give some great answer on Quora, you’ll be in for a massive treat. – Long-term traffic.
Reddit, on the other hand is more like a place where people share links, images and articles on various topics. I’ve not used Reddit personally but I’ve heard great things about it. Neil Patel created a really in-depth article on how to use Reddit to drive traffic to your blog. Make sure to check it out!
You want your audience to spend a good amount of time on your blog. You dont want them just to skim read your post and then just leave. Google has this metric called bounce rate. If the bounce rate for your blog is high, it shows google that people aren’t really staying on your site. And, thats not a good sign. 🙁
The way you can combat that and increase traffic is by inter-linking.
Inter-linking is were you link to another post on your site, in the content of your blog post. Inter-linking to other interesting and related posts on your site will keep your visitors hooked whilst keeping them on your site for longer.
#15 Click-worthy Headlines
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, your headline is more powerful than your content.
A headline is like the cover of a book. Most people judge the content of a book with the look of the cover. When a book catches your eye, your likely to pick it up and see what it’s about.
No matter how epic your content is, if your headline sucks, you can goodbye to all your potential visitors.

Coschedule headline analyzer is a great free tool to help you write clickworthy titles.
Here is an example of the the above titles.
See how the first one gets a higher score. That’s what you want for every headline that you create.
#16 Write On Medium
Medium is this great place that allows your to share your best content with their audience, allowing you to link back to your site.
You dont need to re-write your post, or anything like that. All you do is submit it to them word for word.
You can then promote it on your own social media platforms. Once it gains a bit of traffic traction, Medium will promote the post for you.
But, do you wanna know the best this about Medium?
You can get paid for the posts you submit to Medium. Readers can “Clap” your post if they like it. The more claps you get, the more you’ll get paid for that post.
